For her first solo album Katherine Nikitine pays tribute to the
father of Russian Romantic music. Mili Balakirev, a formidable
personage who earned himself as many adversaries as he did disciples, was the first victim of his obnoxious character. Any number of his friends eventually distanced themselves from him, as
did the public. During his lifetime he received little recognition.
This album seeks to reinstate his memory, instilling in us a fondness for his rugged accents, his magician-like pianism and the
flights of a rebellious heart that to his dying day retained its
purity and integrity.
