Su Lian Tan : The Other Pictures

Music for flute, cello and piano

Composed for the Da Capo Chamber Players, Invention and Sinfonia is dedicated to Andre Emelianoff, a founding member of the group. The second of my pieces inspired by Andre, I include his musical personality and global thinking into this piece. Within a rhapsodic yet classical setting, church bells marry the gamelan, Baroque counterpoint sings with Eastern timbres. Boldness softens to sweetness as we traverse a world of idioms, abstract elements become human and romantic.
